About The Compound

The RC Compound is Dallas Center, IA's outdoor home for radio-controlled racing. Purpose-built for 1/8- and 1/10-scale buggy, truggy, and short-course trucks, with separate practice sessions and organized club-race nights every week.

The on-site shop stocks the parts our regulars actually run — motors, ESCs, LiPo packs, tires, bodies, hop-ups — and our pit techs are in the building during race nights if your servo gives up in Heat 2. Whether you’re rolling in with a box-stock kit or a fully tuned race machine, you’ll find friendly laps and a fair clock.

New to the sport? Stop by during open-practice hours, grab a loaner transmitter, and we’ll walk you through it. First-timers are welcome.

FAQ

Questions from first-time visitors

What are your hours?
Tuesday–Friday: 4 PM – 9 PM. Saturday: 10 AM – 10 PM (later on race weekends). Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM. Closed Mondays. Race-weekend hours run later — watch the event page for specifics.
Where are you located and how far from Des Moines?
105 N Main St, Dallas Center, IA — about 22 miles west of downtown Des Moines, roughly 25 minutes on I-80 and US-6. Free parking out front; delivery entrance in the back for kit drops.
I'm brand new to RC — can I just show up?
Absolutely. Tuesday beginner nights ($15) are the best intro — low pressure open track with coaches on deck. Walk in during open hours any day and someone will show you around the track and the shop. Loaner cars available on a first-come basis.
Is spectating free during race weekends?
Yes — spectators always welcome, no ticket required. Race weekends have a drivers stand with seating near the announcer. Food truck is on site both days.
Do you stock race-day parts on site?
Yes. Shock oil, tire sauce, diff fluid, pinion gears, body pins, servo tape, and commonly-needed spares are stocked in the pit area counter. For a weekend where you know you need a specific chassis part, call ahead and we'll pull it.
